Bloody Mary 75th Birthday
Who knew the bloody mary is celebrating its 75th birthday this month? I did not, but now feel obliged to celebrate. I’ve reference the King Pin recipe, which may be the current leader in the clubhouse as my favorite. A new one I’ll be trying is the Freeman’s recipe because from what I’ve seen with their sporting club and barbershop, their restaurant has to be perfect.
Freemans Bloody Mary
2 ounces Polish potato vodka
2 ounces tomato juice
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/3 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
1 dash Tabasco sauce
1 tablespoon caperberry brine, from the jar (see Note)
2 pinches celery salt
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon freshly grated or prepared horseradish
Ice
2 to 3 caperberries.
Combine all the ingredients except for the whole caperberries in a mixing glass with some ice. Pour back and forth from one mixing glass to another until combined and chilled. Strain into a Collins glass filled with ice and garnish with the caperberries. Makes 1 cocktail.
NOTE: Caperberries are available at Garden of Eden and Whole Foods.
