I used to worry that because I was so interested in so many different things, that I could never become an expert in any one thing. Then I learned to embrace it. It’s just my style to do a lot of different things.

Matt Pierce has one of my favorite blogs/websites out right now, Wood & Faulk. His projects are all DIY and his style is ridiculous. His statement above really resonates with me. As I’ve been reading his blog for a month or so now, I’ve become inspired to get more handy.

I’ve got a lot of passions, and generally I won’t bore you with them. But the passion I indulge almost every day of my life is good writing. I crave it, and when I find it, I treasure it. I surround myself with books full of good writing, and I can’t get through the day without scribbling down a brilliant sentence or delightful word in a thick journal that’s always close at hand.

Thanks to Kottke for point this out. I pulled this bit as I am pretty similar; I constantly am reading and jotting down notes. For the most part, this blog is that notebook. More for me than you.

I have a slip of paper I’ve carried around with me since I was ~16 years old. It’s become my life mantra and something I refer to from time-to-time for motivation, inspiration and reminders. I consider it my mission statement and thought I’d share.

This is about you, about who you know yourself to be and what you are capable of. This is about honoring your individuality, knowing that you are unique, and that you possess your own sense of style and expression. It’s about the competitive fire in all of us, the drive to be the best and believing in yourself. And it’s about refusing to accept any limits whatsoever on what you choose to make of this life. Because the world is yours for the making.

It’s always a great feeling when someone compliments you on what you’re wearing. I routinely get compliments on my pants when I wear a pair of (the few I own) Bonobos trousers.

Recently, Bonobos paid me quite a compliment by pointing to this here little site as one of their favorite style blogs. That’s quite a crew they lumped me with and I’d just like to say thank you.

Much in the way that a riveting conversation with a friend can introduce you to new ideas, events, news, and opinions, kottke is like your buddy who always has something new to say, in a way that’s never off-putting, pretentious, or, God forbid, dull.
