While I spent the month of December in San Francisco, I was able to carve out a bit of time to see Tom Ford’s A Single Man (along with Fantastic Mr. Fox – both just ooze with style). I loved it (both). Not really a whole lot to say (Roger Ebert has a nice review). My main point to the whole post here is to show the poster which I think is brilliant.

A couple other reference(s) on Tom Ford. Charlie Rose has a great interview with him about the movie. And, lastly, the dude is cool. Just check out the soap on a rope by Tom Ford. And, if you’re the type who likes to read the book before you see the movie (trailer), it’s based on the book, A Single Man!

I found the entire article on Charlie Rose to be extremely interesting. I suggest spending a few minutes to read this if you’re a fan of his show like I am. This quick blurb really captures why I like his show and also how I hope to ask questions.

It isn’t that he doesn’t ask hard questions, but he does it in a way that is designed to give you the best chance to make your case for your point of view.

Charlie Rose interviewed Malcolm Gladwell and discussed meaningful work. Gladwell says…

Meaningful work is one of the most important things we can impart to children. Meaningful work is work that is autonomous. Work that is complex, that occupies your mind. And work where there is a relationship between effort and reward — for everything you put in, you get something out…

If you are convinced that the work you are doing is meaningful, then curiosity, there’s no cost to it. If you think there’s always got to be a connection between what you put in and what you get out, then of course you’ll run off with a great excitement after an idea that catches your idea.
