A Case for Always Looking Nice
Tuesday, September 14th, 2010As I build a company, I’m finding it more important to “put on a nice appearance” at all times. One too many beers or appearing too casual could lead to a potential bad outcome from a future client – we only get one real impression. Case in point, this morning I stopped by my favorite coffee shop (and one that could use some web help) in sweats, messed up hair and barely awake. Of course the owner wanted to talk about what I do. I definitely didn’t put on a great impression. Not terrible, but not what I want either.
I know my colleagues scratch their heads thinking why is he in a suit tie today when he has no meetings scheduled & my retort is that I represent the company as soon as I step outside.
Nothing worse than bumping into a client or prospect & looking like I have no self respect for me (or them) – even during after-business hours.
