Coney Hut Drive Inn | Jonesville, MI

Friday, June 18th, 2010

The Coney Hut Drive Inn made my day. Coney dogs, homemade rootbeer and other traditional items make this an absolute must if you find yourself in Jonesville. I went with a coney (mustard, cheese, onion natch), sour cream and chive fries and a mug of root beer. Coney is in the top-5 of the ones I’ve had (perfect onion) and the root beer is delicious.

It’s old school. Pull up your car, roll down the window part way and wait for the waitress to come take your order. She’ll make change in her change belt when it’s time to pay. Lovely.

Ice Fishing on the Upper Peninsula

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

I need to organize a (camping and ice fishing) trip similar to what The Outdoor Club did in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Looks like a helluva lot of fun. Who’s in?

Miller’s Bar | Dearborn, MI

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

GQ calls Miller’s Bar in Dearborn, MI the 8th most important burger you need to eat before you die. A Hamburger Today goes into further detail:

The 7-ounce burger is served on a steamed, white bun and delivered to you on square of wax paper. Lettuce and tomato are not offered. Swiss or Velveeta are available as are the standard condiments like ketchup, mustard, pickle, and sliced onion. But this burger needs no embellishment so forgo the condiments. The meat is so good you could eat it plain. I asked what it was that made the burger taste so great and Mark told me, “It’s the meat. The meat is great. There are no seasonings and we have no secrets.”
