Hotel Room Coffee

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Here are some techniques for brewing your hotel room cup of coffee better. News to me is the tip on filling it with water the night before.

A twenty-degree difference between newly drawn tap water and room temperature will result in nearly a twenty degree increase in brewing temperature.

What I usually do is “double brew”. This means I brew a pot, then pour the brewed pot as if I’m starting from the beginning.

Frequent Flyer Points Scheme

Monday, December 14th, 2009

What a brilliant way to earn frequent flyer points. I’ve always been a bit of a points whore, but this takes the cake.

Coin buyers charged the purchases, sold in boxes of 250 coins, to a credit card that offers frequent-flier mile awards, then took the shipments straight to the bank. They then used the coins they deposited to pay their credit-card bills. Their only cost: the car trip to make the deposit.

…

He says his largest single deposit was $70,000 in $1 coins. He used several banks and numerous credit cards. He earned enough miles to put him over two million total at AMR Corp.’s American Airlines, giving him lifetime platinum-elite status — early availability of upgrades for life and other perks on American and its partners around the world.

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Hotel Secreto in Isle Mujeres, Mexico looks like the place I need to be right now. Rates through December 15, 2009 are ~$125 per night. If only I wasn’t too lazy to renew my passport.

50 States in a Week

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Who’s down with visiting all 50 states in one-week with me? This looks like a tiring, but amazing trip. Maybe we can promote something. Who’s coming with me? I’m serious, damn it.
